I Went Blonde!

After 30 years of being a brunette, I went blonde two weeks ago!  It was something I thought would always be fun to try, but it was never feasible until now.  When you're a broke not-so-working actor in Los Angeles and you just paid $600 for headshots and still have to shell out money to get your headshots PRINTED, the last thing you're about to do is change your look and have to spend ANOTHER $600.

So, let's just get to what everyone wants.  A MILLION DOLLARS!  I mean, BEFORE & AFTER SHOTS!

But first...let me tell you that it was QUITE the process.  On Day 1 I spent 6 hours at the salon - and I didn't even get it cut.  I went back three days later and got a nice cut, which helped dull the shock.  Another three days later I went back and we went a little lighter so as to get rid of some of the brassy/yellowness that was happening.  The third one is me doing sassy side look while in DC (that post is coming soon - and it'll have tons more blonde photos!)  Sorry the photos aren't superstar quality, but you get the...hehe...PICTURE.

My husband was hoping I wouldn't knew I was going to do this, but didn't know what day.  When I arrived hime he came into the garage and at first thought I brought home a friend.  And then the look of shock on his face was priceless and he said, "What did you DO?" in a way that said, "Oh my God, you've ruined our marriage."

I cried the first night.  I think it was a combo of spending ALL DAY in the salon, plus the shock, plus the shock of my family.  When you make a big change like that it's weird for people around you, too, and for a while after I got home Tom seemed borderline annoyed.  Although, when he asked me later that night if I would get a softball uniform and put my hair in pigtails, I took it as a sign that he thought it was okay.

Why did I do it?  Basically, why not?  There's nothing going on in my life where I need to be brunette (unlike when I was in LA.)  I just stay at home with my daughter and occasionally go on outings with family and friends or go to work functions with my husband.  Also, I think being a mom has hurled me into oh-god-I-don't-want-to-look-like-a-mom mode, so what better way to counter act that mode than by bleaching my hair blonde and adding Retin-A to my routine?

Am I having more fun?  If suddenly having wild nightly orgies and constantly misplacing my car keys is having more fun THEN YES.  Because that's what being blonde brings you.

Ultimately, though, I think we all (Tom, my parents & me) prefer the brown hair, but this is fun for a while.  What do you think?

I LOVE the blond on you! That last photo in particular looks really great. I can't wait to see more pics! I've had every color from blond to dark brown to bright red to red with blond, to red with brown. There are few things more fun (to me) than changing hair color. :)

It's cute! I can see how that would be a total shock though. I have grown my hair out recently, longer than it's been in 8+ years. I'm thinking of getting a perm, but I am not going to tell anyone beforehand. I think it'll be more fun that way.

That colour is BEAUTIFUL!! (I don't have the balls to go blond, but I would love to! =)

Oh, are you a color-changing gal? That's awesome. Aside from highlights and something that made my hair look purple once, this is my first big jump! I think I'll eventually go back to brown, but I'll probably try red along the way! I just worry about messing up my hair. It's definitely not AS soft, but I heard it gets better. How has your hair held up through all the changes?

Yeah, my hair hasn't been dye-free since I was 18 or 19 and I'm now 35. LOL My hair actually is great with dye. Because it's so thin, the dye actually bulks my hair up and gives it body. Obviously going blond makes it thinner b/c you're stripping color, but the conditioning treatments and other tones that get added keep my hair healthy. I've never had a problem with dry hair or split ends, thankfully.

very nice!! either way you're beautiful... and what's wrong with looking like a mom?? the saggy boobs, squishy gut, and bags under our eyes only make us sexy right? right? riiiighhttt?????????

I would dye my hair but I fear I would not have the time to maintain the roots. So natural I go. I used to love the days when I would constantly be changing my hair. It looks great!

I have no idea if I have time to maintain the roots. I'll post another picture in a year with the top 6 inches of my hair dark brown and the bottom rest will be all blonde. I'm sure it will be super stylish. How did your hair do when you used to change it all the time? Mine isn't as soft, but I heard it gets softer.

I love that you did this! The third photo looks like a movie still. Gorgeous. But must admit, as someone with mousy brown hair that is usually highlighted, I would kill for your dark drown hair. But you lovely either way!

If I had beautiful brown hair like yours, I would never go blonde! Although, I will say - that if you pay enough for it, you can say it is natural! You look beautiful either way!

Ok, is that a BAD extended dude or a GOOD extended dude?

September 12, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterLiza

Yes, part of me wonders if I've ruined my hair! And thank you for the compliment!

It's a TOTALLY DIFFERENT duuuuuuuuuuude. I wanna see it in person! Did you have to do anything to your eyebrows? Wanna get lunch this or next week?
